McCain returns fire: Obama "confused" on energy
2008-08-06

#12  3% improvement in milrage. For 10% of cars that are not properly maintained. From the less than 50% of petroelum that we use as gasoline

.5 * .1 * .03 = 0.0015 = 0.15%.

Thats 30,000 barrels a day. Tops. ANWR alone will yield 5 times (or more) that amount quite early in its extraction life.

Add in shales, and more agressive drilling thant the half-measures called for, and you have it being nearly insignificant.

Do the math Obama.

In the words of "Lazarus Long" (Heinlein)

What are the facts? Again and again and again-what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what “the stars foretell,” avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable “verdict of history”--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!

#11  If we can save gas by inflating our tires to the proper pressure (something they taught us in high school drives ed.), think how much gas we can generate by *over*inflating our tires.

Come on, people! Pump those suckers up to 80~100 psi and let's end our dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

#10  And fire for effect.

#9  I think McCain should apologize for his celebrity ad and add that it's clear that Paris has a far better thought out energy plan than Obama's tire pressure scheme.

#8  McCain is doing a good job of keeping BO on the defensive. McCain knows what he is doing and it shows. BO still has his training wheels on, in the form of some 300 personal advisors. Many of these are old Clinton advisors giving the same advice they did 15 years ago. Others are radical Left and militant Blacks whose heads are forever frozen in the 1960's and 70's. Even if he picks just the right advice out of this progressive salad, it still takes time to respond to McCain's quick, sharp jabs. We've seen what happens when the great orator tries to wing it. He crashes his little bicycle, hurts his knee, and cries "racism". His knee jerk responses backfire on him. Since I'm not one of BO's fans(you can tell, can't you), this is going to be really fun to watch. Let's see... the first debate is around Sept 26, or so. Better get some more popcorn.

#7  Not only regular oil changes, but with synthetics. That adds another 5% to mileage. Even better than over inflating tires.

#5  How do you increase the number of electric cars and at the same time decrease the use of electric power?

#4  "Who knew you could add air to them?"

Everybody "knows" that, but the economics have changed and old habits die hard. A tank of gas costs $60 and a portable cordless inflator w/gauge cost $40. I now check and top off my tires twice a month, even if they don't LOOK low. Same a w/oil change: $25 for a change and $60 for a tank of gas. I now get EPA rating +10%. We need to do a lot of little things.

OH yeah, and DRILL NOW!

#3  I also find it interesting the article is titled McCain, but most of the article is about His O-ness.

#2  However, before an expansion of nuclear power is considered, Obama thinks key issues must be addressed including: security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, and proliferation

In other words, right after all uranium is finished emitting neutrons, photons, bosons, muons, etc. in about a bazillion years

#1  He also defended his suggestion that Americans inflate their tires to the proper PSI to save on energy costs as accurate, saying of Republicans, “itÂ’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.”

Wow. I had no idea why all four of my tires were flat. Who knew you could add air to them? And looking around, it seems like another 2% of drivers out there haven't figured this out, either. When I see one, I roll down my window at the stop light and educate all these fellow Republicans about how it is possible to add air to their tires, and if all 2% of us ignoramuses did it we could save our country several hundred thousand barrels of oil each day.

And I also understand that Obama plans to help folks with the higher price of gas by mailing taxpayers a thousand dollar check to defray the rising cost of fuel. Will Freightliner's $1000 check take care of the higher cost of their transportation operations somehow? And American Airlines check will somehow take care of them? I also hear he plans to pay for this brilliant idea by cutting into part of Evil Big Oil's 4% profits. I had no idea that at least $25,000 of my income went into paying for personal fuel consumption and heating.
