My mother took her bike and joined the crowds tootling around the countryside searching for anything to feed the hidden, semi=hidden and open family members. Somehow Mama managed to acquire a sack of potatoes, which helped the family that hid her to survive to the end. The Dutch called it the Hunger Winter. Many died of hunger and cold. |

| #11 Hottest of the haute! Read a bio that said her and her mom survived the battle of Arnhem during Market-Garden, by hiding out in the basement for days on end. Also, that an eating disorder may have developed as a result of having no other choice but to simply control the hunger she faced until the shelling stopped. |

I'd have happily made and taken her breakfast in bed every day for the rest of my life just to be able to look at her face. What a beautiful, beautiful woman, who had a heart to match. If there are any women with similar looks and class around now, they're doing an awfully good job of keeping themselves well hidden from view. |
