Russia: Ukraine is helping Georgia
2008-08-09
Puty sets up his excuse for the next move in his game
Russia accused Ukraine on Saturday of encouraging Georgia to carry out "ethnic cleansing" in the separatist region of South Ossetia by providing arms, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian government, which has been enthusiastically arming Georgian troops from top to bottom, was in fact encouraging Georgia to attack and carry out ethnic cleansing in South Ossetia," the ministry said in a statement on its website www.mid.ru.

It added that ex-Soviet Ukraine had "no moral right to teach others how to do things."

#16  The Ukrainians took part in that regional exercise in Georgia that just ended. They also have control of some of the Black Sea Fleet although how much of it, Russian or Ukrainian, is still functional is not known.

They would be a good surrogate for the US if assistance is to be provided to Georgia.

#15  The Ukranians welcomed the Germans in WWII as liberators. Only when they proved to be worse than the Russians, did the Ukraine start to fight against them. The Ukraine will not put on the Russian yoke of rule easily once taken off.

#14  Find that Russian beauty. Join free. Hmmmmm. What was the story about again? Oh, Ukraine is helping Georgia.

#13  I agree, ed. The Ukranians will not suffer the Russians again.

#12  Ukraine is a split nation. Several hundred years of Russian colonization have produced Russian majority areas in Ukraine. Then there is annexation of Polish and other neighboring territory during WW2. Putting foreign troops in the ground will only exacerbate the split, maybe enough for the east, w/ Russia's brotherly assistance, to secede and join the Neo-SSR.

Better to provide assistance to those in Kiev who want to ally with the democracies. Ukraine has a large military and can defend it's turf.

#11  The Russian Empire can't be reconstituted w/o Ukraine. Russian, German and French short sightedness is going to plunge Europe into war again.

#10  And despite your rather fuckwitted snark .5mt, "immediately" does not mean teleport. It means draw up the orders, get everything prepped for transporation on trains, and prepare for a 60 day field rotation there as part of joint training exercises.

Irs doable, and plausible.

And like the announcing of the possibiity of drilling deflated the petroleum bubble, the announcment of this will put a check on the amount of pressure Russia can apply in the Ukraine.

#9  Actually, Ukraine has had US trainers and advisors, and we have agreements for a Stryker brigaed in the works for Romania.

So its not far fetched, and for the Ukraine, its probably the cheapest way of punching the russian akula in the nose with no real consequences.

#8  Ukraine chicks are hot too!

#7  TelePort 2 Marine Divisions with their Prepositioned Store Ships immediately, like yesterday, or even earlier if possible. Back that up with napalm and MOABs

#6  and start arming guerillas in other provinces. Show Putin that if he pushes us in one plae, we will cause him HUGE internal problems.

#5  Deploy a US Stryker Brigade to the Ukraine immediately - have them "invite" us there as a training exercise.

#4  Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the West behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my mind

Aw come on!
Ho yeah!
Ho yeah!
Ho ho yeah!
Yeah yeah!

Yeah I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.

#2  I bet he loses. This is not the old KGB cold war chess game days. This is denial of sovereign immunity and wholesale thuggery. If anyone deserves a humiliating bloody nose its this guy. Hollywood could not have even invented him.

Sounds like a child in power.
