Unidentified criminals yesterday shot dead a businessman and local Awami League (AL) leader in the capital's Shyampur area.Meanwhile, armed criminals hijacked a microbus firing shots at its driver while a rickshaw-van puller was injured when fleeing muggers opened fire on local people in the city's Mirpur.
Police and witnesses said a gang of four to five criminals sprayed bullets on Fariduddin Sarker, 45, a businessman and sports secretary of Syampur thana AL unit, while he was having breakfast with friends at his Toma Hotel and Restaurant at Shyampur at about 8:30am.
Sources said Fariduddin was the president of Miraznagar DND Dam Development Committee and also the general secretary of Rayerbagh Traders' Association.
