Tales from the Crossfire Gazette (Sunday edition)
2008-10-05
Two suspected criminals including an outlawed party leader were killed in the capital city and Ataikula upazila of Pabna in separate encounters between the thugs and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) early yesterday.
Two for the price of one!
The man killed in Dhaka ...
We even know where that is!
... was Aminul Islam, 35, while in Pabna Shahidul Islam Shahid, a regional leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (ML-Lal Pataka) was killed.
The Purbos have been taking it on the chin lately. Maybe there's no Biplobis around?
The Rab members recovered four firearms and 20 bullets in the two incidents.
Just firearms, and no shutter gun?
A Rab-10 statement said that Aminul, a listed criminal often operating in Shiddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj and Demra in Dhaka, is wanted in 12 different systems cases including murders and rapes.
So his mother didn't love him ...
The statement said that Rab apprehended Aminul on Friday morning from Shukushi Graveyard in Demra ...
Skulking around a graveyard at 3 am, was he?
... and took him to Kayetpara in the same area to recover his hidden firearms.
"Open the casket and show us the shutter gun, Aminul [thump]"
As the Rab team approached Crescent Paper Mill at Kayetpara, Aminul's associates, who were already hiding there, opened fire on them.
Just happened to be in the area, they did ...
As the criminals continued fire on the Rab team, Rab shot back in retaliation prompting a 30-minute battle, the press release said.
Of course they did. No self-respecting RAB team waits for reinforcements against an imaginary foe ...
Aminul was shot when he tried to escape during the exchange of fire.
Curly toed slippers failed him, just like every other time.
The criminals however managed to flee the area ...
... as if they'd never been there in the first place ...
... and Rab later recovered Aminul's body ...
... right beyond the pickup truck where they'd dumped it ...
... one foreign revolver, one pipe gun and bullets from the scene.
All of which were made available for the next operation.
Aminul's family own Haji Kafil Uddin market at Shanarpar. His family also runs a transport business.
And they'll keep quiet if they want to continue in business.
Aminul was an accused in a case filed for killing Sramik Dal Sutrapur thana president and BNP leader Anwar Hossain Anu on July 17 in 2003. He is also an accused in the case filed for the rape of four garment workers -- all sisters --at Shanarpar in Shiddhirganj.
Soooo, a real bad boy. No wonder RAB10 took care of Mister Macho.
In the other incident in Pabna, a team of Rab-12 rushed to Raghunathpur in Ataikula at around 2:00 am after receiving information that some extremists were holding a secret meeting there.
Just another meeting of the Purbos and it's going to end just like the last one.
The gang opened fire on the Rab team, triggering an exchange of fire between the law enforcers and criminals.
Wonder what would happen if the 'gang' decided to slip away without firing ...
At one stage, the outlawed party members fled the scene.
And not a round of bullet was left behind for ballistics ...
The body of Shahidul Islam Shahid, from Kalibari village in Ataikula upazila, was discovered from the scene.
"Hey look here Chaudhray, I found Shahid!"
"Yup, right where we left him."
Rab also recovered a revolver, one rifle and 10 bullets.
No shutter gun for him, either.
Rab officials said Shahid was wanted in a dozen systems cases, including seven for murder.
And no need for a trial this way, doncha know ...

#7  This fascination we have with RAB reminds me a little of the same fascination we had with Aussie Rules Football when ESPN first came on cable. It was one of the only sports they had license too and everyone sort became addicted to it.

#5  My favorite is RAB-5. They always get the shutter gun ...

#4  Hey, if you want to call someone at the RAB, there's a phone directory at Nimble Spemble's link. Just don't forget the time difference -- the callee may become annoyed if you interrupt a 3 a.m. encounter.
