| Turkish soldiers clash with PKK, killing 38 |

| Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Saturday vowed a strong response after 15 Turkish soldiers and 23 Kurdish PKK separatist rebels were killed in the bloodiest fighting this year in the country's southeast. Erdogan said he had cancelled a two-day visit to Mongolia and would immediately return home from Turkmenistan to discuss Ankara's reponse. An army spokesman said that fighting erupted Friday afternoon when a group of rebels attacked a border post in Semdinli town, Hakkari province, under cover of heavy weapons' fire from bases in northern Iraq. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan asked parliament last month to extend a mandate, which expires later this month, to launch further military operations against the PKK in Iraq. |

| #3 I love it when the Burg gets drive-by commenters. Especially one-issue commenters. A robotic response probably triggered by the same word-search-thingie used by our resident Greek PITA. For the record, we didn't call them rebels. Al-Arabiya did. And no- we're not going to censor news postings. Most of us Rantburgers are quite aware of who and what the PKK is (which is also partly why the US isn't opposing the Turkish operations). Many of us are also aware that many Kurds support the PKK, because the Turks treated their own resident Kurds like crap for ages. Sheesh. |

| #2 PKK is considered as terrorist organisation by EU, US. They killed around 40.000 civils during the last 20 years including babies, mothers, teachers, engineers.
