Islamabad police claimed on Saturday to have thwarted a terror plot in the federal capital after defusing a bomb found near the National University of Modern Language (NUML), Aaj TV reported. The police said that a bomb disposal squad had recovered the device from bushes near NUML in Sector H-9 of Islamabad, following information from a local resident. The police immediately cordoned off the area and defused the device, the channel added. According to the bomb disposal squad, the 25 kilogramme device could easily have destroyed a large building. The channel said that the police and law enforcement agencies were investigating the incident. Security had been tightened across the country, especially in the capital, following the blast outside the Marriott hotel on September 20, in which more than 60 people died and over 200 were injured. |
