Palin a 'disgrace to women' - Bardot
2008-10-07
FRENCH film star-turned-activist Brigitte Bardot took a swipe at Sarah Palin today, saying the US vice presidential candidate was a disgrace to women.

"I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world," Bardot wrote in an open letter to Republican John McCain's running mate in the November vote.

"By denying the responsibility of man in global warming, by advocating gun rights and making statements that are disconcertingly stupid, you are a disgrace to women and you alone represent a terrible threat, a true environmental catastrophe," wrote Bardot.

The screen icon from the 1960s, who now heads an animal rights foundation, went on to assail Gov Palin for supporting Arctic oil exploration that could jeopardise delicate animal habitats and for dismissing measures to protect polar bears.

"This shows your total lack of responsibility, your inability to protect or simply respect animal life," Bardot wrote.

In a final salvo against Gov Palin, the 74-year-old ex-star picked up on Gov Palin's depiction of herself as a pitbull wearing lipstick and said she "implored" her not to compare herself to dogs.

"I know them well and I can assure you that no pitbull, no dog, nor any other animal for that matter is as dangerous as you are," Bardot wrote.

#21  Obama is not a political candidate. Obama is a religion.

#19   It has been suggested that I take up the study of tea trays as an offensive weapon that I might join their ranks, but I haven't got beyond being appalled at the thought of hammering out the dents afterward, I fear.

TW, old Dodge or Pontiac hubcaps work equally as well, but won't take quite as sharp an edge. Never be afraid to improvise!

#18  Bardot's wrong on this but, hey, nobody's right about everything. She's got Muzzies pretty well nailed and that carries a lot of weight with me since it's such a rare thing in La Belle France.

She did look VERY good in the 60's, too.

#17  Everyone has an opinion. Showbiz people get to have their opinions publicized because they're showbiz people. I don't begrudge her right to have an opinion, but I find it amusing that reporters think it newsworthy enough to cover.

#16  Thank you for the book reference Crazy Fool I have begun to read it in Google and I will probably buy it.

#15  I'm not surprised that Bardot would dislike Palin. Her life's work is animal rights activism and Palin hunts. Sorry Brigitte, no one cares what you think.

#14  TW: a rubber mallet and a bean bag work admirably for removing dents from metal surfaces.
A little pratice on an old cookie sheet (or any Chevrolet hood) will have you doing the Ms. GoodWrench Shuffle in no time!

#13  May TW and all other Rantburg ladies forgive me but

There is nothing to forgive, cher JFM. That statement can only be made to a beautiful idiot, whereas it is well-known that the other Rantburg ladies are stunningly beautiful, frighteningly intelligent, and dangerous as a tigress with young cubs. It has been suggested that I take up the study of tea trays as an offensive weapon that I might join their ranks, but I haven't got beyond being appalled at the thought of hammering out the dents afterward, I fear.

#12  Madonna can't keep anybody from coming to her concert that plops down the $100 or $200 bucks. But why anyone would want to do that is beyond me. I wouldn't walk across the street to see her. The one redeeming thing she did right was to split with that idiot Sean Penn.

#11  In other news Madonna has said Sarah Palin will not be allowed to come to any of her concerts. In her case I'll say, "Shut up and try to sing".

#10  I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world

That could imply that a McCain/Palin win would be a victory for America.

#9  JFM - Laura Ingraham wrote a book about Hollywierd 'stars' telling us what to think entitled 'Shut Up and Sing'.

#8  I think she, and many other film actors, are laboring under the absurd notion that we care what they think.

#7  I do appreciate Bradot making the occasional anti-Jihad comment to warn the French people, she should stick to European politics though.

#6  May TW and all other Rantburg ladies forgive me but:

"Sois belle et tais toi, co..se" (Be beautiful and shut up, idiot).

But it also applies to the Robert Redfords, Brad Pitts and Leonardo di Caprios (usually college dropouts) who think that just because they have interesting faces they are smarter than us and entitled to tell us who we must vote. It is only that I have zero interest in beautiful men so I cannot tell them the "Be beautiful and shut up, idiot" thing

#5  Too bad Palin's not a Muslim. She sould sue her in French court and clean up.

#4  Does anyone really care what a has been beauty that is put out to pasture thinks?

#3  I was about 18-19 when I saw Bardot "nekked" in "And God Created Woman." I thought she was a pretty hot little strumpet at the time but then we often deluded in our youth and driven by our hormones. Do you think I might have a lawsuit for being corrupted by this woman?
Posted by: JohnQC   2008-10-07 14:23

#2  You know, I used to be in love with that woman when I was 15.

#1  "I can assure you that no pitbull, no dog, nor any other animal for that matter is as dangerous as you are," Bardot wrote.

Uh, Brigette, that's not a bug, it's a feature!
