Washington State requires no ID for voter registration - utility bill will do.
2008-10-07
Ok. So my wife passes her Naturalization Interview and is scheduled to be sworn in on Friday (Oct 10) after which we will drive up to Everett Wa (County seat of Snohomish County where we reside) in order to register to vote. She can register up to 15 days before the election as long as she goes to the Elections office.

What follows is from the official Washington State website on Registering to vote (see link).

Apparently you only need a utility bill, bank statement (Bank of America loves illegals btw) or a paycheck to register to vote in Washington State.

Does anyone see any sort of 'Proof of Citizenship' on this page? The page says its a requirement - but no need of actual proof.

ID Necessary to Register

If you register by mail and do not have a Washington State driver's license, Washington State ID card, or a Social Security number, you will be required to provide one of the following items when you cast your ballot.

* Valid photo ID
* Valid tribal ID of a federally recognized Indian tribe in Washington State
* Copy of a current utility bill
* Current bank statement
* Copy of a current government check
* Copy of a current paycheck
* A government document, other than a voter registration card, that shows both your name and address

If you do not provide one of the above items either before or at the time of voting, your ballot will not be counted.
No wonder ACORN loves Washington State.....

#9  our Utility Companies require proof of citizenship and franchise (no criminals are allowed utilities). I'm OK with that. Our Utility Companies can be trusted. I had to show a birth certificate to open a Cox cable acount, so I'm cool with that

/ACORN doode

#8  Sounds easy. Why don't we all go register a second time and vote in Washington too. All you need is a friend with an address you can have a bank statement sent to.

#7  Thanks for the congrats everyone. She's been watching the presidential campaign and has a real appreciation for voting.

Washington also has a register-on-web site. All you need is a drivers license (available to anyone - even one of those Mexican Id cards is accepted as id to get one) or Washington ID card.

What gets me is that what's to stop someone who isn't a citizen from registering and voting in our federal election?

You do not have to provide any sort of proof to get a ballot with the presidential election on it and they don't have the means to qualify or disqualify anyone's presidentual ballot - because they don't even ask for proof.

#6  <3em>How the hell could you be a citizen and NOT have a social security number?

Be Amish or Hutterite.

#5  USN, ret ~ Yep, I know, the Tsar has one and he's not a citizen yet. I just don't understand how you could be a citizen and not have one.

(BTW, congrats to Mrs CF!)

#4  Heartiest congratulations to Mrs. CrazyFool!

CrazyFool, I think those are federal id rules. Trailing daughter #1 registered on-line after her eighteenth birthday with no problem. She did not have to go to the office in person. I believe she used her Ohio driver's license as identification.

#3  CB, that is not the problem, you can get a SSN and NOT be a citizen; they are easy to get if you know who to ask.

CF- we only have ourselves to blame; perhpas the next legislature would be receptive to tightening up the requirements ( yeah, right).
