#9  And remember the dipsh*t decision making that had the Cole go into Aden for fuel, rather than refueling at sea, especially during that period of heightened tensions.

#7  And chasing the one guy who had the cajones to do something about it from office ain't a great message, either. Not that I think we should be patting him on the back, but if the Big Zero gets in, the message will be clear. If JMac, they'll test him and get their answer fast enough.

#6  I read an account by an ex FBI agent sent by the Clinton administration to Aden to investigate the Cole bombing. He thought it crazy to do a law enforcement operation on an act of war. He sat up in the 6th floor of his hotel, afraid that he and his staff would be blown up that night by terrorists. He could not trust the Yemeni govt. He later was on another US Navy ship. It had sailors on 50 cal weapons to protect the ship. A high speed boat came close to the ship. The ROEs prevented shooting till way too late. He was afraid that they would be blown up. The whole thing was crazy.

And I agree. Even Reagan did not respond appropriately against the killing of the 240 Marines in Beirut. We have left a trail of bad messages since the Teheran hostage taking. Bad leadership and bad decisions.

#4  The last AQ attack that wasn't answered by the FBI or some deputy dog. Think what it would have been like if Clinton or even Regan had taken serious measures after the Marine barracks or Khobar Towers or any of the other precursor attacks.

#3  I remember Al Gore piously giving a eulogy to the members of the Cole and only months later sending his lawyers into Florida whose very first act was to invalidate the absentee ballots of those same service people. IIRC that blanket act included one of the survivors of the attack.
