Georgian president names new premier |
2008-10-28 |
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has named a new prime minister after he dismissed Lado Gurgenidze following agreements with him. "We took a joint decision with Lado Gurgenidze that he will no longer serve as prime minister," Reuters quoted Saakashvili as saying on Monday. "When I appointed Lado Gurgenidze as prime minister we agreed that he would work for one year and he has done excellent work during this year, he faced extraordinary challenges during his time in office," said Saakashvili. The Georgian president would ask parliament to approve Georgia's ambassador to Turkey Grigol Mgaloblishvili to replace the outgoing premier. "I have nominated Grigol Mgaloblishvili as the new prime minister of Georgia and we together will soon present a new cabinet," Saakashvili said. |
