Iran: We can block off Persian Gulf in blink of an eye
2008-11-06
A senior Iranian official has brushed aside the remarks made by a NATO official that Iran is incapable of blocking the Persian Gulf.

"We hope that neither the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf nor any other waterway would be blocked, but if the enemy attacks Iran and consequently it (the blockade) becomes necessary, the Islamic Republic of Iran can easily close the Strait of Hormuz," Brig. Gen. Massoud Jazayeri, a senior official at the Armed Forces Headquarters told Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

The commander of NATO's naval forces had earlier said that Iran's threats to close the strategic Persian Gulf waterway were a "fantasy".

During his visit to Kuwait this week, Vice Admiral Maurizio Gemignani said the international waterway could not be blocked.

About 40 percent of the world's oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz.

#21  Iran is too important to attack boys, their populace is pretty much Americanized for the most part

Only in the urban areas and even then it's generally the youth.

and they arent "Arabs",

They aren't all 'Persians' either.

their Mullas have them by the balls for now...

Bit more complicated than that. More like an uneasy coalition of the mullahs and the IRGC, the latter which answers to Khameini.

#19  I think A5089 hit the nail fairly square; Oman will either roll over and play with himself or push the red button. i would hope he consults with his military leadership, but the good ones will probably have resigned / retired and all he is left with will be yesmen.
I hope I am wrong.

#17  Maybe George will decide to go out in a (nuclear) blaze of glory, and the entire eastern bank of the Persian Gulf will glow for the next 3000 years. We can do that, a$$holes, so keep your sh$$ to yourselves.

AB, the young people act pro-Western, as a way of defying the mullahs. They have no real love for us.

#14  Bill Clinton did not have military experience nor warmongering mindset either - but he was ok with deploying our forces into battle from time to time (we'll leave motive out of the discussion.) They may not have been the battles we would have selected and not fought as we would have fought, but it does leave room to hope that Pres-elect Hope&Change might not be a total surrendercrat. I think decision-making looks a whole lot different when you actually have to make the decisions. (I'm not optimistic about the next 12 years, just not quite totally pessimistic.)

#13  Obama hasn't got the balls to stand up to these people.

OR, he could over-react, both from inexperience and desire not to look as a wimp. iran makes a move, Zero reacts as he's expected to react, iran is emboldened because it's what they thought of him, and sh*t happens (US ship hit by a missile, or something like that). Then, Zero feels he has to look tough, and SHTF.

#9  spike. I've heard that before and if it is true then there is at least one faction inside Iran that is absolutely begging for Iran to be attacked in a major way.

Here though, Iran must really have an end-times death wish. Iran IMPORTS refined gasoline (from India I think) since they can't do it themselves.
I'm not saying they won't try to choke off supple. It's in the scorpion's nature.

Or they may just be trying to talk the price of oil up.

#8  Nothing in our military arsenal--subs, planes, aircraft carriers, nuclear weapons--means a damned thing if there isn't the will to use it. Obama hasn't got the balls to stand up to these people. They're going to bend him over and bugger him and the MSM will tell us that he was 'wise and statesman-like in his dealings with a misunderstood country."

I expect to see a LOT of resignations from the military in the next few years. We'll probably get a lot in the next two months, as people who don't want their retirement papers signed by The One put them in to get out while Bush is still POTUS.

The military on the whole loved Bush. Pity the rest of the country isn't nearly as bright or honorable as they are.

#7  they must have forgotten about our subs

#6  So far, they managed to pull off a "dirty ship", which was intercepted by apparent Mossad agents--Somali pirates. Means they are not there yet and all they can do is spouting. Once they stop spouting, I'd be concerned.

#5  It seems awfully hard for these birds to keep spouting off this nonsense and not begin to start believing it themselves. Then the fun begins!

He understands it, at least, as well as your new president-elect.

#2  To the iranians, we just elected a man who has said for the last two years "we quit, we've lost, we can't win". The US doesn't want to fight. They think they could role us over and bugger us on national TV, we're weak and half of us are facking quitters. They'll push this to the limit.
