2008-12-25 |
![]() "This year we will be able to go to church on Christmas eve without fear," he said. "From a security point of view, we live - without a doubt - in an improved security situation compared to previous years, when we witnessed violence and attacks against various sectors of Iraqi society. This new situation helps all of us, including us, Iraqi Christians." Kana also invited Iraqi Christians who left the country to return without fear. Despite the recent killing of Iraqi Christians by Shia militias in Mosul, Kana said that in the last five years, the Christmas mass had been held in Baghdad and Mosul. Iraq is home to the Chaldean Catholic Church, one of the oldest Christian churches in the world, but hundreds of thousands of Christians have been forced to flee Iraq to escape the violence and the economic crisis caused by the war. |
