Sindh Governor reviews performance of anti-polio campaigns

KARACHI: Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khanhas stressed on making anti-polio measures more effective, coordinated and result-oriented.

In order to monitor the performance, he announced the establishment of a Polio Control Cell in Governor House. He was chairing a high level meeting held at Governor House here Saturday in which the anti-polio measures were reviewed.

The Governor directed the concerned authorities to carryout anti-polio awareness campaign in a vigorous manner so that a spirit against this disease generates among people.

Internationally, he said, there should be a positive impression that anti-polio steps in Pakistan are being sincerely implemented and the country would be made polio-free at all cost. The Governor was informed that all the three polio cases reported in Karachi were found in families which came from Frontier Province.

The Governor directed that awareness should be ensured among all sections of population and specially the suburbs and more in families coming here from outside the Province. In this regard he emphasised upon seeking the cooperation of religious leaders of respective areas.

He directed that Nazims, DCOs and elected representatives at all levels should be kept active in the anti-polio drive.

Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad said that besides NDIs, the anti-polio vaccination too should be carried out on regular basis.
