| Mesa police are investigating an incident Thursday that have left a husband and wife each injured with gunshot wounds, but their statements to police are conflicting as to who was trying to commit suicide, according to authorities. Police responded to the shooting inside a residence and discovered a woman with a gunshot wound to the stomach and a man with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Sgt. Edward Wessing, spokesman for Mesa police. The man told police that his wife was threatening to commit suicide, and the gun went off as he tried to wrestle it away from her, but the woman told police that her husband was trying to commit suicide and the gun went off when she tried to get the gun away from him, Wessing said. |
