| [Bangla Daily Star] To tackle the ongoing gas supply and pressure crisis, the government has planned staggered holidays on seven days of the week in seven industrial zones around Dhaka, and shutting down five fertiliser plants and a dozen 210 megawatt (MW) power plants in phases over the next 12 months. |

| #1 UNOCAL offered to develop the gas fields. They would also supply India (the largest market in the area) so the Bangladeshis refused the offer. The TATA group offered the largest ever investment in Bangladesh, steel plants, factories, power plants, that would use this gas. Tata is Indian so the Bangladeshis refused the offer. |
