Introducing...the newest member of the Mod Squad
2009-05-13
The Rantburg staff would like to welcome the newest addition to the moditorial crew.

trailing wife has graciously agreed to lend Fred a hand for the duration of his surgery and recuperation. We will, of course, be delighted and honored if she chooses to continue beyond Fred's hour of need.

You'll recognize her contributions as inline comments in a stunning periwinkle that flatters her eyes, and by the steely twist of her blade between your ribs. The blade you never even felt sliding in until it was far too late.

Welcome aboard, tw, and thanks.

#36  Dear Eric was sitting when we met at my first Rantapalooza, so perhaps that's why he saw a tall, slender blond. ;-) I actually look exactly not like that, only a good deal shorter. But I hold on to the knowledge that there is a real probability I'll cross the 5' barrier one of these days. We'll just ignore the exact size of that probability, though...

#35  TW - you always manage to raise the tone of Rantburg with cogent, insightful commentary. I guess that means we cancel each other out. :-)

#34  TW looks like Peggy Lipton, you know.
Posted by: Eric Jablow   2009-05-13 21:06

#33  Darlings, all of you! I shall have to bake something for y'all tomorrow. :-) Classical_Liberal, you are such a flirt -- but see, you behave like the true gentleman that you are... and who knows what will happen if reincarnation is true. ;-)
Posted by: trailing wife   2009-05-13 17:52

#32  Congratulations TW and thank you for stepping up. If I shared my complete feelings there would be trouble with Mr TW and I would likely be your first act of moderation.

#31  Hail tw!

tw FTW!
Posted by: Mike N.   2009-05-13 15:00

#30  Congratulations TW.

#26 said it all for me. Best wishes.

#29  TW, do you own a home overlooking the ocean in Carmel, CA? It recently merged with "Sea Urchin" the reverse elevation home next door. What's going on here, inquiring minds want to know?

#28  Junkuya, TW
Posted by: Mercutio   2009-05-13 14:10

#27  Wow, the Burg keeps getting better and better. While I rejoice at your promotion TW, I hope Fred gets well soon.
Posted by: Spot   2009-05-13 13:42

#26  Congrats TW!! The Burg will be a better place now that you not only swing a periwinkle clue bat, but you bring grace and charm to our friendly brawl.
Posted by: 49 Pan   2009-05-13 12:30

#25  An excellent choice, Fred! And congratulations, TW! Could not happen to a more deserving person!

And we should not just wait with anticipation for her to strike the reality-challenged that occasionally pops up among us: I look forward to periwinkle colored inlines in the bodies of articles themselves, where their impact is amplified by proximity that would otherwise be diminished when stated in the comments.

#24  TW is SWELL! Good choice!
Posted by: Kofi Claitle6576   2009-05-13 11:40

#23  Welcome aboard, TW -- I cheated and went to Ed's link and saw your periwinkle! Lovely, of course.
Posted by: Sherry   2009-05-13 11:18

#22  Congratulations, tw.
Fred, I hope everything goes well with the re-build.

#21  Hails and such.

#20  When I saw the headline about a new member of the Mod Squad, my first thought was, "I bet it's TW."

I'm very happy that it is. Great choice, Fred. Congrats, TW!
Posted by: eltoroverde   2009-05-13 10:03

#19  Congrats on the promotion. Periwinkle is rgb(170, 170, 255) or #AAAAFF. For some other color choices look here.

#18  Extra points for WTF, and in under fifteen minutes! :-) I'll have to think of something harder, next time.

Spammers won't make me cry, Darth Vader, only the determinedly stupid.

You know I adore you, Frank dear... and I know you'll never give me reason to cry.
Posted by: trailing wife   2009-05-13 09:47

#17  *gulp*...hey, TW? Still buddies, right?
Posted by: Frank G   2009-05-13 09:35

#16  Glad to see you on, TW. Don't cry over the spam trolls though. They are as deserving of a ban as the Taliban are of a JDAM.
Posted by: DarthVader   2009-05-13 09:19

#15  "Best Beloveds". Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling.

Good luck with your new assignment, TW.
Posted by: WTF   2009-05-13 09:05

#14  Good morning, and thank you O My Best Beloveds (points for the first one to say where that's from). I'll model the periwinkle -- it's a soft, purplish blue -- as soon as I figure out how to put it on. I shan't strive for too much decorum, because that would interfere with Rantburg's traditional civil, well-reasoned discourse. BUT, if I tell someone he is out of line, I expect there will be absolutely no whining about freedom of speech or unnecessary political correctness. Rantburg is the living room/lounge/sitting room (whichever dialect of English the reader speaks most comfortably) of Mr. Fred Pruitt's home, and those who do not accept his rules will be spanked with my brand new clue bat. Those who prove incapable of learning from that will be banned, after which I will retire to my little corner to cry over the recipient's stubborn stupidity. Please don't make me cry -- my eyes get red, which clashes horribly with the lovely periwinkle Fred gave me.

#13  Congrats TW. Always looking forward to your insightful commentary. Class act is right.

And now I guess we better be good - or no tea and cookies.
Posted by: CrazyFool   2009-05-13 08:45

#12  Congratulations, tw!

(The trolls don't yet know what hit 'em, and probably never will....heh heh heh!)

#11  TW! Excellent.
Posted by: GirlThursday   2009-05-13 08:29

#10  If anyone can bring some decorum and civility to this unruly pack, it's Trailing Wife.

Well done and welcome aboard!
Posted by: GORT   2009-05-13 07:29

#9  Cool! I have not only enjoyed TW's rapier-like wit but also have had the privilege of actually meeting her in person! A charming and delighful person, unless you irritate her with your stupidity!

Looking forward to see just what color 'periwinkle' is like.
Posted by: Bobby   2009-05-13 06:55

#8  TW, you are a class act, and this is the most well-deserved of all well-deserved promotions.
Posted by: Mike   2009-05-13 06:49

#7  It seems esteemed TW is not yet in the coded color chart in the sidebar. "Stunning periwinkle"... is that like Doc White's "salmon" - ahah, yes, "salmon", that one always cracks me up... -, except that it isn't pink, but more of a pervenche like color? I should wiki it.
Posted by: anonymous5089   2009-05-13 04:27

#6  Yay TW!! Another excellent choice for the mod pack!

Please do not hesitate to rap the knuckles of the deserving with your periwinkle-colored ruler, lest some of us rowdier folk decide to act out intentionally just to see what happens.

#5  TFSM - ROFL

tw - ***w00t!***
Congratulations. We're looking forward to being stunned by your periwinkle. ;-)

Fred - praying for a speedy recuperation. Hope you have a good book and some good music and can manage to really relax a little.

I hit the tip jar last week (through PayPal for the first time), and when my refund comes back, I'll try to hit it again.

#4  Marines also need a few good women. Looking forward to your Tour of Duty.

#3  I suppose we're going to have to start being nice and polite to each other now?
Posted by: Thing From Snowy Mountain   2009-05-13 00:54

#2  Dear Trailing, I have always enjoyed your rapier sharp wit, go at them!!
Posted by: Steven   2009-05-13 00:20

#1  Welcome agin, tw, and a reminder to Rantburg's loyal netizens and lurkers:

The tip jar is over there on the right sidebar. If you can spare it, launder your ill-gotten gains through PayPal or Amazon, or shop through the Amazon link - Fred's gonna have to buy us some beers after he heals up.
