[Quqnoos] Incumbent Karzai's vice presidential running mate in election has survived a life attempt in northern Afghanistan on Sunday, officials said Mohammad Qasim Fahim, a close ally of Mujahiddin leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, was ambushed on a road in northern Kunduz province while he was heading to Takhar province to campaign for Karzai's reelection bid, said Kunduz governor, Mohammad Omar. One of the Fahim's bodyguards has been wounded in the fighting erupted Sunday afternoon, added Governor Omar, who himself was injured in a roadside bomb blast a month ago on the same way.
Quqnoos' Basir Hamidi in Kunduz province said the militants attacked Fahim's convoy with rocket-propelled grenades and rifles. At least three insurgents were killed in the exchange fires.
