[ADN Kronos] Italian and Afghan soldiers on Tuesday came under fierce attack from militants, just north of Farah in western Afghanistan.
A spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said that the Afghan soldiers, backed by the Italians immediately responded with an exchange of fire. One militant was captured but no injuries were reported amid reports of worsening violence across the country.
The Taliban have vowed to disrupt the elections and have urged people to boycott the ballot, the second direct presidential poll since the hardline Taliban were removed by US-backed Afghan forces in 2001. |
