Iran: Three men executed in western city |
2009-08-05 |
[ADN Kronos] Three men accused of the kidnap and rape of two women in February 2007 have been executed in Hamedan, in western Iran, according to state daily Iran. The daily said the men were hanged in Hamedan prison on Monday. Chief prosecutor of Hamedan, Akbar Biglari, said one of the hanged men kidnapped a woman with the others when she approached him to ask for information and then raped her. The husband of the victim reportedly died of a heart attack a week later. Last Saturday three men were hanged in Isfahan in central Iran, after they were accused of homicide and drug trafficking. According to human rights groups, around 350 people were executed in Iran in 2008, second only to China. However there is concern that the number of executions and incidence of torture has risen considerably since the disputed presidential election in June. |
