IP Arrest Suspected Terrorist Commander |
2009-08-08 |
Iraqi Police (IP) from the Basrah Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, along with U.S. advisors, arrested a suspected terrorist commander during an Iraqi-led operation in southern Iraq, Aug. 5, acting under the authority of a warrant issued by the Basrah Court. During the early-morning mission, court documents indicate the IP arrested the suspected insurgent leader in accordance with the Republic of IraqÂ’s terrorism laws. The suspected terrorist commander of the Basrah-based insurgent group is allegedly responsible for conducting and coordinating improvised explosive device and indirect fire attacks in the area. The detainment of this individual may reduce the insurgent organizationÂ’s effectiveness to conduct attacks against the local populace, Iraqi Security Forces and Government of Iraq officials living and working in the area. |
