Kashmir: One dead, several injured in grenade attack |
2009-08-13 |
![]() The incident took place in the town of Sopore, 50 kilometres north of the summer capital Srinagar. "Militants hurled a grenade at a police bunker which missed its target and hit the civilians," a police spokesman said, adding the man who died was a 63-year-old Muslim. Violence has increased recently in the Muslim-majority region ahead of India's independence day holiday on August 15. In June suspected separatist rebels threw a grenade at a security patrol in the heart of Shrinigar, wounding four paramilitary soldiers. The attack came a day after two Pakistani soldiers were killed in the first ever suicide bombing in a part of Kashmir held by Pakistan. |
