JAMRUD: Masked gunmen killed a senior Afghan journalist in Khyber Agency on Monday, in what appeared to be target killing, said witnesses. Janullah Hashimzada – Peshawar bureau chief of Kabul-based Shamshad TV – was en route to Peshawar from Torkhum when the gunmen stopped the passenger van he was travelling in and shot him in the head and neck, the driver of the vehicle, Abbas, told Daily Times. “The masked men intercepted my van near Sur Kamar in Jamrud, and shot the journalist from close range,” said Abbas. Jamrud Hospital sources said the journalist had been shot four times – twice in the head and as many times in the neck. The Khyber Union of Journalists, the Peshawar Press Club and the Tribunal of Journalists have condemned the killing of Janullah. |

#1 journalism: poorly paid and highly dangerous. These people risk their lives every day to tell the world what is going on, with very little thanks or recognition to go along with the tiny paypacket that won't cover the bills. I salute you, fallen comrade. |
