Back in the time of the Shah, Iran considered itself the southern front line against the Soviet Union, and prided itself that with US training and backing, they could offer some serious damage to the bear. The invasion of Iran by Russia was even seen as a major possible WWIII scenario. However, going back to the time of the Tsars, Russia had ambitions against Iran, but it was too far, and too ambitious for the Russian army. |
