Aboard the 'INS Dolphin'
2009-09-26
Israel keeps its submarines secret and refuses to divulge details regarding their capabilities or operations. Nevertheless, The Jerusalem Post and three other reporters were given the rare opportunity earlier this month to join the Dolphin crew on a routine training exercise.

#5  The 45 degree angle seems bogus because the boats I was on were extremely chancy over 30 degrees angle also considering that the Dolphin is about 60 to 70 meters in length. At 45 degrees the bow will be 30 meters or about 100 foot deeper than where the depth gauge is open to sea. Controllability can be compromised at such high angles.

#4  Not really. It depends on the size & design. The Soviet Kilos could go down to 500m.

#3  ... as the submarine dips into a 45-degree angle and descends to almost 300 meters below the choppy Mediterranean.

300 meters? That's a little deep for a diesel-electric boat, isn't it?
