#1  if you have young kids/grandkids, I totally recommend the Dangerous/Daring Book series for both boys and girls. They include interesting (even to kids) lessons on stuff we kids used to learn in the old days. My young nephews loved it and my own 18-20 yr old sons loved it as well (got their own copies after checking out my nephew's copies)
