Lieutenant Boyes, a 26-year-old father who had just arrived for his second tour of duty in Kandahar 10 days ago, did not survive the blast. Two other Canadian soldiers were injured when the device planted by insurgents detonated at about 9 a.m. They are expected to recover. But Lt. Boyes, the platoon commander for a police mentoring unit based out of the PRT in Kandahar city, was too badly wounded.

I'd have already nuked half of Pakistan, used napalm so freely the only trees growing would be ones my troops had planted, and used ARCLIGHT strikes daily as a "hearts and minds" winner - I.E., "you're either with us, or you're dead". I'm outraged that a group of really GREAT guys are dying because an idiot or two isn't willing to go Mongol on a bunch of 10th-century holdouts. |

| #1 The Taliban should be happy I am not POTUS. I would declare the hours between sunset and sunrise to be a free fire zone along the rat lines. I would burn every poppy field in Afghanistan and pay the farmers twice the paltry sum they get from the drug smugglers. I would execute anyone caught with bomb making material. |
