[Iran Press TV Latest] A court in China has sentenced to death five people involved in the deadly ethnic unrest in its far-western Xinjiang province in July, a report says. The official Xinhua news agency reported Thursday that two other people were sentenced to life imprisonment. In October, nine were sentenced to death, out of the 21 convicted, and the rest were handed various prison terms. The defendants were found guilty of crimes such as murder and robbery. The unrest erupted on July 5, pitting Uighurs against majority Han ethnic group. The clashes left at least 197 people dead and more than 1,600 injured, according to official figures. |
