[Iran Press TV Latest] The mayor of Pakistan's Lakki Marwat district and a number of people present with him have escaped a suicide attack. Lakki Marwat is one of the southern districts of the North-West Frontier Province in Pakistan.
Mayor Qudratullah Khan was in his office, along with his family members and a number of people who had come to greet him for his hajj pilgrimage, when the bomber tried to approach him. But his foot slipped and he fell down. The explosives hidden under his jacket exploded prematurely, killing no one but himself, Pakistan's Dawn reported late on Thursday.
"It was a suicide attack," District Police Chief Mohammad Ayub said adding that only a part of the suicide jacket exploded, while explosive wires, a packet of knives and hand grenade were recovered from the killed attacker.
He further said that if the suicide vest had exploded completely, there would have been huge losses of lives as more than 60 people were present at the time of the explosion.
