Snow blankets city in SW Saudi Arabia |
2010-04-08 |
![]() I blame Global Warming. According to Saudi Gazette newspaper, a thick blanket of snow fell Tuesday on Tanomah located north of Abha in the Asir province. Meanwhile, the suburban areas of Namas, Souda, Shaaf, Turaib, Oqbat Dalae, Khaibar Al-Janoub, Madda, Tihama Balasmar and Balahmar received heavy rainfalls accompanied by hailstorms. Tanomah is known for its milder climate compared to the rest of Saudi Arabia. Abha, situated 2,200 meters above sea level, is in a mountainous region close to the border with Yemen. Temperatures in Abha at this time of the year range between 12 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees, but have fallen as low as 4.5 degrees. |

#3 That would be hail, not snow. Up until the 1940s or so many US weather stations recorded hail as snow. Even today, some stations report snowfall as having occurred in July and Aug in places where that didn't really happen. |
