| Defense ministry receives Phoenix base in GZ |

| BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Iraqi Defence Ministry on Thursday received the responsibility of the U.S. Phoenix base inside the Green Zone in central Baghdad, a senior Iraqi army officer said. “The ministry received the responsibility of the Phoenix base which belongs to the U.S. army,' Deputy Chief of Staff, General Hussein Jassem told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The transfer of responsibility from the U.S. army to the Iraqi ministry came after an agreement between the two sides a few months ago after the approval of the council of ministers,' he added, noting that the transfer is part of the U.S. withdrawal agreement signed between the two governments. |
