Johnson! Stop the presses!!
NEW YORK – Authorities have identified the buyer of the SUV used in a failed Times Square terror attack and are seeking him as a potential suspect, two law enforcement officials said Monday.

The buyer is a man of Pakistani descent who recently traveled to Pakistan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is at a sensitive stage.

#2   Connecticut Man in Custody for Failed Times Square Car Bomb
A man in Connecticut has been taken into custody in connection with the Times Square car bomb case.

No further details have been released about the action which took place just after midnight.

New York police and FBI agents had narrowed their focus on a Pakistani-American — a US citizen — who lives in Connecticut and is believed to have bought online the Nissan Pathfinder that drove into Times Square Saturday night with a bomb.

Investigators know that the manÂ’s name was on an email that was sent to the seller of the SUV last month after they connected on Craigslist, but officials cannot definitively say whether he used his own email or whether someone else sent it from his account.

#1  Arrest warrant issued over failed NY bombing
US investigators want to arrest a Pakistani-American man they have identified as the buyer of the vehicle used in a failed car bombing in New York's Times Square, the New York Times reported.

The man recently returned from a trip to Pakistan, the newspaper said, citing people briefed on the investigation.

The naturalised US citizen from Pakistan, who lives in neighbouring Connecticut, bought the 1993 Nissan sport utility vehicle with cash and no paperwork in the past three weeks, the paper said.

"Investigators who were tracking the man were also exploring whether he or others who might have been involved in the attempted bombing had been in contact with people or groups overseas," it said, citing unnamed federal officials.

Law enforcement sources told Reuters that Saturday's attempted attack may have involved more than one person and could have international ties.

The hunt for the suspects has now been taken over by the Joint Terrorism Task Force, led by the US justice department.
