| US CENTCOM chief visits Pakistan |

| ISLAMABAD: US Central Command chief Gen David Petraeus visited Pakistan on May 2 and 3 as part of his regular consultation with Pakistani military leaders. He visited the Lehri Training Range to observe the military's counterinsurgency training. During his visit, he also met Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani and 11th Corps Commander Lt Gen Asif Yaseen Malik. During the meetings, Petraeus briefed the Pakistani leadership on the progress being made in the war against extremism in Afghanistan. He promised continued support for the Pakistani military as it combats extremists. Anticipating progress by the security forces in the coming months, he said the success would result in major improvement in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. |
