Well, that didn't take long ... | ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday granted a pardon to Interior Minister Rehman Malik against a conviction and sentence awarded to him by the Accountability Court Rawalpindi in January 2004 in absentia against which his appeal was rejected by the Lahore High Court earlier in the day.
The president's spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the pardon was granted under Article 45 of the constitution on the advice of the prime minister that was tendered late on Monday night. He said that Malik was sentenced to three years imprisonment in each of two references in absentia by Accountability Court, Rawalpindi. |
