Seven Die in northern Mexico

Seven individuals died from ongoing drug and gang related violence in northern Mexico, which includes the kidnapping of a municipal police officer in Santigo, Nuevo Leon, and a prison riot in Juarez where three inmates were killed and four inmates were wounded.
  • An unidentified man was found executed in his car in Juarez, indicate Mexican news reports.

    The victim was found aboard a Dodge Stratus on Avenida Tecnológico in the Camargo district of Juarez. No other details were available.

  • An unidentified woman was found beaten to death and stripped nude Monday afternoon in Juarez, according to Mexican news accounts. The victim was found with her face beaten near the intersection of calles Pedro Moreno and Constitución near Juarez city center.

  • A severely beaten man found early Sunday died in a hospital of his wounds Sunday afternoon. Roberto Toca Gonzälez, 23, died in Hospital General at 1500 hrs Sunday from wounds he received. He was found on Bulevar Juan Pablo II by an unidentified 20 year old who brought him to the hospital.

  • An unidentified man was shot to death in a gunfight in Juarez, say Mexican news accounts. Witnesses say that a group of armed man riding in a Dodge Durango fired upon a lone man on foot at about 4500 block of Calle Fray García de Juärez in the Los Frailes district. The victim attempted to flee the attack, but died at the scene.

    Investigators found spent cartridge casings from a 9mm weapon at the scene.

  • Three inmates were killed and several more were wounded in a riot in the CERESO prison facility of Juarez, say Mexican news reports.

    Earlier the prison director, Ramón Gerardo Quintana Villasana, said in a telephone interview the prison was quickly brought under control, but did not release any more information. However, later reports say that several guards are being held hostage with three inmates were dead. A late report indicates four inmates were wounded.

    Reports now are that elements of the Mexican Army including two armored cars and two Blackhawk helicopters are at the prison attempting to bring the facility under control. Subsequent reports indicate elements from nearly every law enforcement element in Chihuahua are involved in the countering operations, including Mexican federal agents.

    Last Wednesday the CERESO prison in Juarez was the scene of a prison riot between two rival prison gangs, the Aztecas and the Mexicles gangs. Two died and several were injured in that event which saw the use of firearms, tactical vests and Molotov cocktails. As with the last riot, reports are inmates were armed.

  • A Nuevo Leon police officer is missing and presumed abducted Sunday, say Mexican news reports. Emeterio Ãvila Gallardo, de 49, was reported missing Sunday from his patrol car in Las Margaritas and is presumed abducted by authorities. Police reported several threatening calls made to the police Sunday threatening municipal and transit police.
