Elements of the Mexican Army 9th Military Region killed 14 unidentified armed suspects in a shootout in the southern Mexican state of Guerreo Tuesday, say Mexican news accounts.

The 27th Infantry Battalion was attacked from the interior of a residence from on Calle Moisés Carbajal in the Bermeja district of Texco at about 1130 hrs in the morning. The military requested the surrender of the attackers but were rebuffed. Reports are the gunfight lasted about 40 minutes. The Mexican Army reported no losses in the gunfight.

Following the gunfight, the army seized 13 rifles and five pistols from the residence and a vehicle.

Taxco is the same place where 53 corpses of murdered individuals were found earlier this month in an abandoned mine. Guerrero is turf to the rival Belträn Leyva and La Familia criminal gangs. The military is not certain which gang the dead belonged to.
Probably don't care, either.

#1  The cynical side of me says that the army of Meh-hee-co probably hired out to one of the gangs. Otherwise, how can you explain the success of the operation?

In Meh-hee-co, la mordida (the bribe) rules.
