| Violence kills three in Burundi |

| Amid a tense security climate ahead of the presidential election in Burundi, violent attacks have left three people dead and several others injured. Not killers, or murderers, but that damned violence killed 'em... "A grenade exploded in a bar in Bujumbura's Bwiza neighborhood, killing one and wounding six," Burundian police spokesman Pierre Chanel Ntarabagany said. I'm not real big on gun control, but grenade control sounds pretty reasonable. Grenades don't kill people, violence kills people ... "Another was hurled at a home in Nyabiraba... killing one and wounding two," he added according to AFP. The attacks followed the Monday assassination of the president of Burundi's Youth League ruling party by unknown gunmen. Ntarabagany also noted that around 30 people were injured in similar attacks over the past weekend. The Political and security atmosphere in Burundi has been tense since local polls were held in May 24. Burundian opposition parties accuse President Pierre Nkurunziza's ruling party of vote rigging, saying they would boycott the country's June 28 presidential poll. |
