Another Great Moment in the History of White Trash...
On Thursday morning a report by Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said Barry Painter Sr., 38, was intoxicated and playing with a venomous western Gaboon viper at a home in Cumberland County when he was bitten.

Painter's sister, Jessica Painter, contends that her brother was not intoxicated and that he always handed the viper with care.

"My brother did not play with the snake, he knew not to. He signed waivers when he bought this snake, knowing it could kill him," she said.

Her brother is employed as a tattoo artist at Drop of Ink Tattoo in Shippensburg, Jessica Painter said. Lately he had been keeping the snake at his friend's Southampton Township home, 46 Walnut Dale Road.

She said he is engaged to be married, and has five children, ages 2-15.

He had the snake for about five years, having raised it since it was about 4 inches long, she said. Although he had a number of snakes and other animals in the past, the viper was his only current pet.

Asked what her brother named his snake, Jessica Painter said he affectionately referred to the animal as "his (expletive)."

On Wednesday night he "reached down into the snake's cage like he normally does" to change its bedding when it suddenly bit him twice on the hand, she said.
