An active captain with the Juarez municipal police was arrested Monday for abuse of authority and for the murder of four members of a family in 2008, say Mexican press reports.
Captain Juan Manuel Escamilla was arrested for the 2008 murder of four members of the family of Rubio Medrano in Plaza de Acuna in Juarez.
Reports say six more arrest warrants were issued by the Chihuahua Fiscalia del Estado on six other individuals who were police station commanders, although reports do not state what the charges were.
The arrest is significant because Teto Murguia, newly installed as mayor of Juarez Sunday, was mayor of Juarez in 2008 when his former municipal police chief, Saulo Reyes-Gamboa, was charged with drug crimes in the US. Escamilla was said to have worked as in bodyguard for Chihuahua former governor Patricio MartÃnez and later for Reyes-Gamboa's staff.
