| MEND threatens Nigeria with new attacks |

| [Iran Press TV] A Nigerian group has threatened the government with fresh attacks after taking responsibility for twin car bombings that left a dozen dead on October 1. "We have decided to carry out another attack in Abuja without altering our mode of operation to (prove) the suspects' innocence," the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said in a statement on Friday. The statement came two weeks after the group exploded two cars at celebrations for Nigeria's 50th anniversary of independence from Britain that killed 12 people in capital city of Abuja. "As usual we will give a 30-minutes advance warning to avoid civilian casualties, then sit back and watch how the blame game will be played out on all those already falsely accused," said MEND, a militant group in the oil-rich south. MEND fighters regularly attack oil installations as they blame the government for not equally distributing the resource in the Niger Delta. |
