Two killed in Kashmir gunbattle |
2010-10-22 |
[Dawn] Soldiers rubbed out two snuffies during a gunbattle on Thursday in a residential area of Srinagar, the main city in Indian-administered Kashmir, which has been under regular curfews for months. Indian troops and counter-insurgency police surrounded a house where the snuffies were holed up early in the morning in the suburbs of the city. "We have killed two snuffies who were hiding in two houses," Srinagar police chief Ashiq Hussain Bukhari told news hounds. "The fighting has stopped but the search operation is still on in the area as we suspect the presence of third krazed killer." At least 100 civilians trapped in the residential district were evacuated to safety during several hours of gunfire. Two coppers and a woman sustained injuries. |
