Sarkozy loses temper over Israeli PM
2010-11-01
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu for backing out of talks with acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas in a Paris summit.
There's no outrage like French outrage ...
During a telephone conversation 10 days ago, Sarkozy urged Netanyahu to extend a partial, temporary settlement freeze on the West Bank settlement construction, which was due to expire on September 26, Ha'aretz reported on Sunday.

The French leader brought the issue to the fore in an attempt to lay the groundwork for the resumption of direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Sarkozy then extended invitations to Abbas and Netanyahu to attend an October 21 summit in the French capital, but the Israeli premier backed at participating in the negotiations "at the last minute."

Meanwhile, European diplomats say Netanyahu's decision stirred the outrage of the French president, whose fury was quite evident during his conversation with the Israeli leader.

"Netanyahu realized that he would come under enormous pressure on the issue of the settlements and decided to cancel his participation to avoid that pressure," the diplomats said.

However, the Israeli Prime Minster's office has denied the reports, saying the telephone conversation between the two leaders was "a routine call between friends."

The fall-out comes as Tel Aviv continues to ignore international calls to extend the partial 10-month moratorium on the expansion of its occupation through settlement construction.

#4  Is President Sarkozy angry because Prime Minister Netanyahu isn't taking marching orders, or because he's been blocked from displaying his importance by hosting yet another summit in Paris? The Brits have been mentioning his lack of height again, to which he is said to be terribly sensitive.

#3  A prime minister of Israel who is not criticized by Euros is not doing his job.

p.s. Don't you have enough problems at home that require your attention Mr. Sarkozy?

pp.s. No matter that you say or do Nicolas, you'll still be sale juif to the French.

#2  Even better, he could offer for Israel to pay for one way tickets to France for those Paleos who were feeling oppressed. That is, unless France doesn't particularly want several thousand Paleos.

But to refuse them would show that the French hate Arabs.
