Khaleda urges all to join post-Eid movement
2010-11-18
[Bangla Daily Star] BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has called upon the countrymen to join the anti-government movement after the Eid-ul-Azha to protect the interest of the nation and the country.

"Certainly after Eid, we must launch movement to protect the interest of the people and the country... now there is no other alternative but movement," she said.

The leader of the opposition was talking to the news hounds Wednesday afternoon after hosting a reception on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha at the Ladies Club in the city.

She thanked people for spontaneously observing the November 14 countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal two days ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. BNP enforced the shutdown to protest "forcible eviction" of Khaleda Zia from her Dhaka cantonment residence on November 13.

Narraing the 23-month-old Awami League government's "misdeeds, failures and wrong steps," Khaleda said the government should quit power shouldering the responsibility of failures, otherwise the country will step back 40 years.

She said the last Fakhruddin-Moinuddin government put back the country by 20 years. The country will step back another 20 years if the present government stays in power further.

The BNP chairperson said there is no local and foreign investment in the country for want of suitable environment while mills and factories are closing down one after another as the local market is grabbed by foreign products, which increased unemployment.

She further said it has been learnt that many Bangladeshi garment industries are being sold out to foreigners.
