One person wounded in pirate attack on Russia's tanker in Nigeria |

(Itar-Tass) - Russia's tanker NS Spirit was attacked by pirates while staying at its anchorage at Nigeria's port of Lagos, the press service of Novoship, a shipping company that owns the vessel, said on Monday. Ten armed people attacked the tanker and opened fire from automatic rifles at 01:49 Moscow time 30 miles off the coast. One crewmember was maimed and others managed to hide. Soon after the attack pirates left the tanker, no new attack attempts had been taken, the press service said. According to the state maritime rescue coordination centre, the tanker' s captain had broken his hand during the attack. NS Spirit with the deadweight of 47,000 tonnes was built in Croatia in 2006. The tanker's crew includes 22 Russian citizens. The tanker is flying the Liberian flag. It headed for the port of Lagos with 37,700 tonnes of petrol. |
