Russian forces kill 8 in Dagestan |

According to the officials, the Islamic fascisti were killed in a shoot-out with police after they barricaded themselves in a house in the city of Makhachkala, the capital of the North Caucasus region of Dagestan, and refused to give up. One of the dead, identified as the "Emir of Makhachkala," is believed to be responsible for the death of several Russian coppers and the organization of several attacks. The other seven men have yet to be identified. No losses have been reported among the Federal Security Service ... the successor to the KGB... (FSB) and Interior Ministry officers involved in the shootout. Russia has been fighting separatists in the North Caucasus since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union. |
