Blogger Schlussel changes website in response to CAIR suit | |

A fight over a website name may have been settled in federal court Monday. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) claims that blogger Debbie Schlussel was violating their trademark by registering cairmichigan.com with links to anti-Islamic websites. Www.cairmichigan.com now hosts the Council on American-Israel Relations, an organization run by Schlussel.
" A federal judge said Schlussel has undone most of the confusion, therefore he did not order her to take it down. "She simply changed the color, and she made it clear that what she's talking about is the Council on American-Israeli Relations, which cannot be confused with CAIR, the folks that brought this lawsuit," Schlussel's attorney said. Whether Schlussel is allowed to use the acronym CAIR must be answered in federal court. "The CAIR trademark is very weak, and we're going to seek to invalidate it. There's trademark misuse, and really this is just a thinly veiled lawsuit to try to muzzle another critic," said Kochanowski.
