Steele drops re-election bid, Priebus to head GOP
2011-01-14
GOP Chairman Michael Steele has dropped his re-election bid amid declining support as the Republican National Committee, facing a $22 million debt and an internal war over the party's identity or something, voted to elect a new chairman.

"I will step aside because I think the party is ready for something different," Steele told the committee after doing poorly in four rounds of balloting. He endorsed challenger Maria Cino and called for the party to be unified as we it seeks to topple President Barack Obama in 2012.

#8  New guy is an insider, part of the upper crust GOP. And thus may be part of the problem. He has a few months before the knives start being sharpened.

RNC tends to be way too insider oriented, and that blindness is what cost them even greater success last cycle.

But in any case good riddance to Steele, who was a flopper.

#6  I will give him a year and make a decision then. For now, I will support the party. Lets have a look a year from now and see how things look.

New RNC Chief: 25th Century Mogolian/Hun Conqueror From the Future, Reince Priebus

No, seriously, he has a science-fiction villain name.

I like it, but "Reince Priebus" seems like it should have an "Overlord" or "StarKhan" in front of it.

#3  For starters, if Priebus wants to keep the RNC a relevant force in politics, they NEED to embrace the grassroots and the tea party while telling the country club elite to sit down and share. The damn RINOs have pissed the regular voter off so badly, they don't work with the RNC and even deliberately work against them and their wishy-washy candidates. The time for a consensus on how things are run from everyone is necessary.
