Tunisia rejects 3 Islamist political parties
2011-03-14
[Maghrebia] Tunisia's interim government on Saturday (March 12th) refused to legalise three Islamist and two other political parties, TAP reported. According to the interior ministry, the applicants failed to comply with a law banning the creation of political parties on the basis of religion, ethnicity, gender or region.

In other news, three close allies of ousted president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali were placed in durance vile on Saturday. Abdelaziz Ben Dhia, Abdallah Kallel and Abdelwaheb Abdallah are charged with extortion and other crimes, as part of the criminal complaint lodged against Ben Ali's Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD).

#2  Unfortunately, many if not most muslims see a quick fix in islamization of politics. Of course, to believe that they would have to support the Ayatollah model in Iran or the Wahabi brand in Saudi Arabia.

#1  Most likely these islamist parties will adapt and re-organize on some other basis than religion, ethnicity, gender, or region and return as a political party.
