| Jordanians call for dissolving lower house |

| (Xinhua) -- Dozens of Jordanians staged a sit- in Sunday, calling for the dissolution of the lower house of the parliament. The demonstrators, who represented political parties, opposition groups and trade unions, called for the formation of a new interim government in the country in preparation for holding nationwide elections to elect a new government. They also called for political and constitutional reforms and a modern election law. "We want democracy. We want freedom. We want to work together to form a new government and elect a new lower house," said the demonstrators during the sit-in, which occurred in front of the lower house in Amman. The participants, who slammed the performance of the lower house, also called on the government to abolish the Wadi Arabia peace treaty Jordan and Israel signed in 1994. |
