ASHDOD, Israel - Israel displayed on Wednesday advanced arms that it said had been found aboard a cargo ship seized in the Mediterranean Sea, and pointed to the haul as proof of the need to blockade the Gaza Strip.
“Their origin is in Iran, they passed through Syria and were en route to terror elements in Gaza. But their ultimate target was Israeli civilians,” Netanyahu said. “It is our duty, not just our right, to stop these ships and remove their weaponry.” The German-owned Victoria was intercepted on Tuesday some 200 miles (320 km) from Israel, after it set off from Syria and berthed in Turkey. Israel said ordnance stowed on board would have been offloaded in Egypt and smuggled to neighbouring Gaza. The arms find included six C-704 radar-guided anti-ship missiles, thousands of mortar shells and almost 67,000 assault rifle bullets for AK-47s, an Israeli military spokeswoman said. Also on display were sacks of lentils which, the Israelis said, were used to disguise the arms caches. The Chinese-designed C-704s could have enabled Palestinians in Gaza to challenge Israel’s control of their coast. Hezbollah guerrillas used a similar missile to cripple an Israeli warship and kill four of its personnel during the 2006 Lebanon war. Defence Minister Ehud Barak said C-704s launched from Gaza could also threaten an Israeli off-shore gas field and a fuel pipeline, as well as commercial shipping to and from Ashdod. “This is an item that could change the mode of conduct around the coast of the Gaza Strip,” he said. A source in Israel’s Foreign Ministry said Victoria’s crew would be repatriated “at the earliest opportunity”. “In principle, the ship itself will be returned to its owners once the legal situation is resolved,” the source said.

| #11 Israel can bitch and moans till forever, but getting off its ass and sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan is what would really impress me. Israel has offered, but was told that if they went, other countries wouldn't, so be supportive by staying home, kthx. They make bullets and such for us, instead, because the Jew-hating allies don't object to that. |

Israel= milker EU with exceptions = milker Israel our "best" ally? Prove it. Shed some blood over in the places where those Dirka Dirkas you hate so much live alongside our boys and girls, not just in gaza. Have some of your guys get some limbs blown off, spill some guts. Because right now, all you're doing is pimping equipment and training. CYA tactics, usury tactics. Ill leave it at that. Israel can bitch and moans till forever, but getting off its ass and sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan is what would really impress me. Our boys are cannon fodder for all these other nations that won't send troops but claim to hate Islam. If you hate Islam so much, go fight them where they live, not just in your backyard. |

| #9 I recall that Bill Ayers and his terrorist wife went over to Egypt to support busting the Israeli blockade. These two were Obama's buddies in Chicago. Finding this trove of weapons is vindication for the blockage if any was needed. Too bad not much of this will be seen in the MSM in the U.S. |

| #8 No, no, guys. File lawsuits against the ship's owners, whoever is leasing it, whoever is operating it, whoever purchased and shipped the cargo, and those that sold it to them. File ALL the lawsuits in the International Criminal Court, and point out the hipocracy when nothing is done about the suits. Also, confiscate the ship and its cargo, and sell it to support the lawsuits. It's like in the US - the only time things are going to change is when it starts to hurt the rich and powerful. |

| #5 Fair is fair. The Israelis should announce that they plan to ship these arms to European Jews, breaking the Euro-embargo of weapons for self-defense, in those places in Europe where Jews are oppressed by Muslims. |
